Rules and Regulations 2011
TARRA Ridden:
Open to all thoroughbreds unraced and raced, 4 years and over, who are registered with Wetherbys (passport will be checked). Racing name of the horse to be used where appropriate. The first two will qualify for the TARRA Ridden Championships to be held in September 2011. If the first two have previously qualified then qualification will pass down the line to 4th place, only if there are 6 or more entries in the class. If fewer entries than 6, then qualification will pass to first and second placed only. Riders must be 14 years and over. Injuries to horses caused through racing such as blemishes are allowed. The Class will be judged on manners, way of going, ride/individual show and conformation. The Judge may ride. Judges decision is final.
In the Ridden class you will be expected to walk, trot, canter and gallop as a group, possibly with a change of rein. If the judge does not ride the exhibits, you will be asked to do an individual show where you should show walk, trot and canter on both reins and a gallop, finishing with a halt and salute to the judge.
TARRA In-Hand:

The first two will qualify for the TARRA In-Hand Championships to be held in August 2011. If the first two have previously qualified then qualification will pass down the line to 4th place, only if there are 6 or more entries in the class. If fewer entries than 6, then qualification will pass to first and second placed only. Riders must be 14 years and over. Injuries to horses caused through racing such as blemishes are allowed. The Class will be judged on manners, suitability, way of going conformation. Judges decision is final.
- TARRA classes are for thoroughbreds horses, either raced or unraced; Thoroughbred passports from overseas are accepted if the horse was bred to race
- TARRA In-Hand classes are open to horses of any age
- TARRA Ridden classes are open to horses 4 years and over
- Riders must be 14 years and over
- TARRA Veterans are 13 years old and over
- Any competitor that falls in a ridden class may not continue
- Colts or stallions must be handled/ridden by someone 16 years and over
- Handlers/riders may only compete one horse in any one showing class
- In the event of one handler/rider going through to a championship with more than one horse they can nominate a substitute handler/rider
- Passports or registration papers may be required to be shown upon entry to the class
- No horse may enter the ring after the judging process has begun and the steward has closed the ring
- An exhibitor may not knowingly exhibit a horse that has been bred, sold, leased or produced by the judge or his/her employer
- An exhibitor may not show a horse judged by any member of his/her immediate family
- An exhibitor may not show under a judge that they have produced an equine for within the last 24 months
- The judges decision is final
TARRA – Turnout Guidelines
Rider/In-Hand Handler
- Hat: Dark in colour, beagler, bowler or strapped hat
- Shirt & Tie: Preferable to stocks
- Breeches: Light in colour although not white. (Plain trousers should be worn for in hand, in a colour contrasting your horses legs)
- Boots: Long brown/black or leather gaiters
- Spurs: Optional
- Gloves: Compulsory
- Cane: No longer than 30”
- Jacket: Navy, Black or Tweed Horse
- Bridle: Any suitable neat bridle, cavesson /crank noseband only (no sheepskin nosebands or blinkers)
- Bits: Any suitable and appropriate but ideally double/pelham or snaffle – no gags/hackamores
- Saddle: Well fitted saddle to accommodate judge to ride too, with a discreet numnah if required
- “SIDESADDLE” is permitted in TARRA classes providing that a suitable astride saddle is also provided for the ride judge
- No boots to be worn in show classes
- No other tack allowed – especially flash/grackle noseband,martingale etc.
- Approved nose nets are allowed in the ridden class for those horses that are allergic to pollen only. A letter from your vet must be carried and produce on request.
