About Us
TARRA was established in 2002 by Peter Gunn.
Peter Gunn has spent the whole of his working life in racing. At the age of 15 he worked as an apprentice with W Holden and M J Ryan and then rode as a flat jockey until 1988 riding some 50 winners. Today Peter and his wife Sarah still ride out for the world famous Darley Pre Training.
Peter is a panel show judge and it was while judging a hunter class in 2000 he noticed a few thoroughbreds who, although nice, were not quite the right “type”. After speaking to their owners Peter realised that there was a distinct lack of showing classes available for the thoroughbred. Since he began TARRA in 2002 the classes have gone from strength to strength. The 2010 season has seen XXX competitors take part in qualifiers throughout the country which culminated in the In Hand Championship finals at Newmarket Racecourse and the Ridden Championship finals at the Royal London Show.
In addition to the TARRA Championships, Peter runs flatwork clinics throughout the season at venues throughout the country.
TARRA has been helped throughout by RoR by supplying prizes for the classes and Blue Chip Horse Feeds have kindly sponsored the qualifying classes.
